MacBlack Timber is a specialist sawmilling, timber merchant and joinery business based at 44 Peat Street in Whanganui, and it exists to make sourcing beautiful, honest timber straightforward. As a working timber yard in Whanganui, the mill supplies locally grown, chemical-free boards cut to your project specification — not whatever happens to be stacked in a big-box store. Customers looking for timber supplies in Whanganui, roughsawn timber in Palmerston North or macrocarpa timber in Taranaki can choose from macrocarpa, Tasmanian Blackwood, poplar, redwood, English elm, cedar and around ten eucalyptus species, all milled on site. Timber is untreated and air-dried, with a kiln-dried finish available, and can be ordered dressed, profiled or straight off the racks. Because every board is sourced from New Zealand farm forestry, the origin is known and the timber is free of chemical treatment — which matters if you are building something you will live with for decades.
Milling, drying and machining all happen under one roof in Whanganui, so quality control never gets handed to a third party. That means fewer surprises, honest advice on species selection, and timber slabs in Taranaki or a custom wood table top in Palmerston North that arrive looking the way you expected. The joinery side of the business puts that same control into finished pieces: hardwood kitchen benchtops in Levin and wooden benchtops made from New Zealand-grown species such as Tasmanian Blackwood, Mountain Ash and macrocarpa, each one milled, dried and finished in-house. For homeowners and builders after character rather than uniformity, this is the difference between a benchtop with real grain and colour, and a sheet of laminate pretending to be timber. Every board is checked by people who have spent years on the tools, so what leaves the timber mill in Whanganui is fit for the job.
Custom joinery is where locally sourced timber in New Plymouth really comes into its own. MacBlack crafts barn style doors in New Plymouth, along with internal and external solid timber doors in New Plymouth, each made to suit the opening, the timber choice and the oil finish preferred — so there is no trimming, packing or compromising on site. The team also profiles timber flooring in Palmerston North and wood panelling in Taranaki in New Zealand-grown exotic species, bringing warmth, durability and lasting character to living spaces, hallways and feature walls. Delivery reaches New Plymouth, Taranaki, Palmerston North, Bulls, Levin, Horowhenua, Kapiti, Wellington and the rest of the country, which makes MacBlack a practical choice among wood suppliers in Whanganui and well beyond.
